About

The title of this blog comes from the book Trickster Makes This World, by Lewis Hyde: “Hermes … is neither the god of the door leading out nor the god of the door leading in–he is the god of the hinge.”

Hyde’s book is about the nature of trickster gods — Hermes, Coyote and Krishna are his most frequently cited examples — and how art serves a similar purpose. It pushes people across boundaries, breaks rules and taboos, and by doing so creates a new reality, one in which the old limits are stretched and broken. It seemed a fitting title for a site that is primarily about pagan-themed books, music and film.
